What is the Flu?

“Flu” is the common name for influenza. This is a disease in which the respiratory epithelium is affected due to the inoculation of a virus that comes from the respiratory secretions of other infected people.

Generally, when you are sick from a virus, your body activates a defense system by generating antibodies to fight it. This means that you generally will not get that strain of the virus again. Unfortunately, flu viruses change from one year to the next. Therefore, you will not be protected from the flu forever.

Flu symptoms appear 1 to 4 days after a person has been exposed to the virus. The main symptoms of the flu are:

  • headache
  • sore throat
  • fever
  • shaking chills
  • muscle pains
  • runny nose
  • dry cough

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms do not hesitate to come in for a screening test, since symptoms of Flu and COVID-19 are really similar. We have the capacity to conduct quick testing and get results on the same day. We currently have rapid flu and Covid testing. We also offer PCR and Antibody testing for Covid-19 through our reference lab and results are available in 5-7 days.
